It’s been a difficult year to say the least and seeing the senseless murder of George Floyd spark protests across the country is truly the microcosmic story of America as a whole. I’ve always considered my work to be inclusive and rooted in progressive values, but I felt that I needed to see for myself what was happening in my own backyard and help be a part of the solution. I marched with as small group of protesters for about an hour before the police blocked off all exits and began arresting every person present. I was able to escape into a nearby hotel lobby and avoid being hauled off, but I saw the police offer no solutions, no alternative, no compromise. I understand that they are dealing with crime, mental illness and the effects of poverty every day, however, there was something distinctly fascistic about their corralling of bodies for simply exercising their right to free speech and free assembly. Keep loving each other and donate your time, energy and money to the organizations that help their communities. RIP George Floyd #blacklivesmatter
